Shapes:
The most brilliant of all shapes, the Round Brilliant is the most popular diamond shape, representing over 80% of all diamonds sold.
The next most popular shape is the square-shaped Princess. Exquisite in both name and brilliance, a princess-cut diamond's "V" pavilion facets are a sight to behold under a microscope.
The Emerald shape is available in different length and width ratios. The Emerald shape is for those who prefer either a very rectangular look (achieved with a 1:1.5 length-to-width ratio) or a chunkier look (achieved with a 1:1.35 length-to-width ratio). The Emerald is step-cut, so colour and imperfections are easier to detect than in a brilliant-cut diamond.
The marquise shape stone is an elongated shape with pointed ends. This shape looks spectacular on longer fingers and shows "big" proportionate to its carat weight. If you want the look of a larger stone, then this is the shape for you!
Shaped like a "Tear of God", the Pear is an ideal choice of diamond shape for a drop pendant or earrings.
For those of you always ahead of the latest fashion trend, the Asscher shape diamond may be the one for you. First popular during the Art Deco era, it's lately been making a big comeback. Like the Emerald shape, the Asscher is step-cut so colour and clarity are easier to detect than in brilliant-cut diamonds.
The Radiant shape diamond combines the elegance of the Emerald-cut with the brilliance of the Round Brilliant. It's a superb choice for fancy coloured diamonds like canary yellows or pinks because Radiant shapes show off colour extremely well. Featuring a bigger table than a Princess-cut, the Radiant is available in both square and rectangular dimensions.
If you want a hot stone shape, then you want a Cushion. Once popular during the Victorian era, they're back in vogue with the latest vintage styles you see in the latest fashion magazines. The modern Cushion-cut is more brilliant than its Victorian counterpart and is readily available in rectangular configuration but square Cushions are also available.
Need we say more? We can help you find a nice "heart-like" shape - not too skinny or too chunky or rotund.
Often used as a centre stone, Trilliant shaped diamonds are especially attractive as sidestones to "blocky" centre stones like Radiant, Cushion or Princess.
The Oval shape shows very well and is proportionate to its carat weight. It's also another good choice for coloured diamonds because it shows off colour very well.
The four "C"s and diamond pricing:
Diamond prices are based on RARITY!
Carat Weight (Size):
Question: If a 1ct stone is $5000 then how much is a 2ct. stone? The answer is NOT $10,000. Because bigger stones are more rare, the price could be 5 times the price. A stone that is larger than a smaller stone of equal color, clarity and cut is exponentially more valuable. If size is more important to you than color, clarity and cut, then you should be able to get a stone twice as large for the same price as you would if you had a balance of the four "C"s.
